Smoke and Torches, Katrin Dohse, 2018

Let me first of all say that some skilled graffiti artists had worked here. However, the majority of the handiwork had likely been done by first timers. The buildings are adjacent a restaurant parking lot and graffiti seems to be not just tolerated but promoted. The semi-circular buildings make the artist visible for a quarter mile as only railroad tracks, a road, a bridge and the French Broad River lies to the west.

Despite the plethora of names, heart signs and other vapid decorations, I found the challenge of using alchemy to create art from it all appealing. It is the reason I am so often drawn to abandoned buildings; alchemy releases the gold within the lead.
