Fabric Amidst Destruction I, 2016

On May 13, 2021 I began my day of shooting Dubuque, Iowa at sunrise. As Dubuque continues its transformation from a city of big shoulders to a tourist attraction, much has been removed that reflects its industrial past. The coal plant that provided electricity for many decades has disappeared, the giant oil tanks are gone, but some remnant of industry can still be found. This abandoned factory was built in 1897 for the Dubuque Brewing and Malting Company. They built a tunnel from the basement of the factory leading to the Mississippi River, presumably for shipping product.
