Smoke and Twilight, Katrin Dohse, 2017

1 - 9 Residential

I shot in the late afternoon along the edge of the western Mississippi valley. The city below and the Illinois shore are often visible.

10 - 17 Abandoned Building

I shot another abandoned building, less than a mile from the abandoned buildings with which I started my Dubuque shoot. This building clearly included office space and appears to be from the late 1950s to early 1960s. It is surrounded by tourist attractions, in an area that had previously been purely industrial. As with nearly every building in Dubuque there is no sign of graffiti. I have no idea why this is. Graffiti is seldom visible except on trains passing through the city. This building is in bad shape despite its age and is likely owned by the city.

18 - 27 Night

I seldom shoot at night as it is challenging to layer photographs with high ISO and so much blackness. I was staying at the Hotel Julien and wandered the blocks around it. This is the southeastern part of the old downtown.
